The main protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series, Edward Elric lost his brother, as well as his arm and leg after a failed Human Transmutation attempt. Replacing his limbs with metal prosthetics, Edward joined the military together with Alphonse and became known as "Fullmetal", and is on a journey to find the Philosopher Stone to restore his brother.
Alphonse Elric is Edward Elric's younger brother. Having lost his body after a failed Human Transmutation attempt, his soul is placed on a large steel armor as a last ditch attempt to save him. He then joins his brother on a journey to search for the legendary Philosopher Stone to return back to normal.
Winry Rockbell is a mechanic and surgeon in training that lives in the same village as Edward and Alphonse. She is the one that helps Edward by making metal prosthetics for his limbs and repairing them when they're damaged.
Izumi Curtis is a skilled alchemist and martial artist. Having experienced a similar trauma, Izumi decided to take Edward and Alphonse as her disciple, training them in both Alchemy and Martial Arts to help them in their journey.
Van Hohenheim is the Father of the Elric brothers who left the family at an early stage of their life. His motivation and backstory is shrouded in mystery and plays an important role in the story.
Roy Mustang is a Colonel in the Military and a reputable State Alchemist. He is known as the Flame Alchemist since he uses a custom-made glove made with unique materials and a drawn Transmutation Circle, allowing him to create sparks by snapping his fingers to cause explosions in an area.
Riza Hawkeye is an officer in the State Military, as well as Roy Mustang's personal bodyguard. While she doesn't use any Alchemy, she's an experienced soldier that is skilled with a variety of guns and known as the "Hawkeye" for never missing her mark.
Alex Louis Armstrong is an officer and a state alchemist in the military. Known as the Strong Arm Alchemist, Alex has a wide and muscular physique and a skilled brawler that can also use Alchemy in combat by creating earth spikes with his gauntlets.
Known for his bright personality and strong love for his family, Hughes is an officer in the State Military that plays an important role in the story for his investigation related to the Homonculus.
A soldier working under Louis Armstrong, Maria Ross is a reoccuring character in the story to help the State Military and the Edward and Alphonse.
One of the main antagonist of the series, King Bradley is the Führer in the State Military, and a homonculus with extraordinary abilities and swordsmanship skills.
Older sister to Alex Louis Armstrong, Olivier Mira Armstrong is the commanding officer at Fort Briggs. Despite her seemingly slender appearance, she has quite the muscular build and is shown to have level of agility and strength.
Kimblee is a former State Alchemist known as the Crimson Alchemist, and an antagonist in the series with psychopathic tendencies. He has the unique ability that allows him to create explosions from range that is also amplified by the power of the Philosopher's Stone.
Ling Yao is the twelfth crown prince of the eastern nation of Xing. Trained in the martial arts of Xingese, Ling Yao is an extremely skilled warrior that can even rival the Homunculus. He also shares the same body with Greed, and can change to one another from time to time.
Lan Fan is a ninja-like Xingese warrior and a loyal personal bodyguard to Ling Yao. Like any trained Xingese warrior, she's very skilled with her martial arts but she leans more towards agility and stealth, as well as her mechanical arm for some advantage.
May Chang is the seventeeth royal princess of Xing. Even though she's only 11 and has a chidlike appearance, she's a highly skilled martial artist and is able to perform a different Alchemy style in combat called Alkahestry. Together with her pet panda Xiao Mei, she's out on a journey to find the secret to immortality.
Lust is a Homunculus that is born from Edward and Elric's failed human transmutation attempt. With the power of the Philosopher's Stone, she's able to turn her fingers into sharp claws capable of cutting through steel very easily.
Gluttony is a Homunculus often accompanied by Lust. With a childlike personality, Gluttony is someone with unsatiable hunger and wants to keep eating. He is able to transform his body into gate-like form as a way to consume.
Envy is a Homunculus that is capable of changing his appearance and his voice into anyone. Combined with the power of the philosopher stone and his hatred for humans, Envy often toys with people to cause suffering.
Greed is a Homunculus that shares the same body as Ling Yao. He has the ability to that can harden his skin to be stronger than diamond, earning him the title of the Ultimate Shield.
Sloth is a Homunculus with a large muscular body that shows low level of intelligence but incredible speed and strength.
Scar is a survivor from Ishval and a religious vigilante that aims wants to right the world by getting rid of State Alchemists. His greatest weapon is his right arm, having the ability to destroy anything it touches through a form of alchemy.
